Our History
The Professional Women's Group was founded over 25 years ago by two women at significantly different stages in their careers.

Lisa Belser Hutchings arrived in Zürich in 1982 and set out to conquer Switzerland and the working world. Six months later she was still looking for a group that accommodated women working full-time. She met Ethel Volgelsang, who had just finished her studies in psychology and re-entered the working world after raising four children.

In the fall of 1983, Lisa and Ethel founded the Professional Women’s Group of Zurich. The group started with just a handful of women meeting monthly, in Ethel’s practice, to share problems and exchange solutions. Later they broadened their horizons by inviting speakers to present topics of interest to working women. Some of the original members still attend monthly events, which now regularly attract on average 70 members and guests.
