Tuesday evening saw a record participation of 74 PWG members and guests in a thoroughly inspiring evening. We listened, mesmerized as guest speaker Lesley Stephenson explained her core beliefs about leadership in the new millennium. Lesley bravely shared with us, through powerful personal examples, her own three lessons in leadership; the need to be authentic; the need to listen and have a plan; the absolute necessity to delegate and create pride of ownership among those that help us achieve our goals. Over dinner, we questioned our view of a traditional "Hero”leader and debated what qualities we look for in Leaders we choose to follow. The energy in the room was undeniable. Post dinner we shared the results of our small group discussions, where we saw the Leader emerge as a responsible, honest and understanding individual dedicated to the community. Although we did not all agree with this assessment, each one of us took away from the presentation a need to rethink what it means to be a Leader. Many of us stayed on late into the evening, fueling further discussion that left us all inspired to assume leadership roles in our own lives.
