Google Visit: 18.11.2008
The members only visit to Google on 18.11.08 was a resounding success –we had well over 60 participants –our biggest event yet! We learned that the Google office in Zürich (opened 2004) is Google's second biggest engineering centre outside of the US. The office has well over 400 people from 50 countries and the building was designed for Google, based on the Googlers' requirements! After introductions from Alison Cutler and Renee LaPlante, Jana Urban talked to us about Google's search methodology and strategy, whilst Fiona Herring introduced some Google Products and explained Google's product management. PWG members asked many, many questions! After drinks and an apero, we split into groups and were given a tour of the evening by Google guides. Some brave souls tried out the Fireman's Pole and the slide into the Canteen! We left feeling inspired and motivated. "The women speakers represented a range of current-generation careers and perspectives. Our interaction with them –and with all of our tour guides, including one brave man - conveyed resounding warmth and commitment. I found it an excellent demonstration of Google ’s principles and also what we hope to achieve as an international career support network." Jill Allemang, PWG President
